With approximately 70 per cent of the company’s shares, the Lundbeck Foundation is the principal shareholder of H. Lundbeck A/S. The foundation was established in 1954 by Grete Lundbeck, Hans Lundbeck’s widow, and is today one of the largest private contributors to natural science research in Denmark.

The Lundbeck Foundation was founded to safeguard and expand the activities of the Lundbeck group, and to contribute financial support to high-quality research in the natural sciences.

Lundbeck was listed on the Copenhagen stock exchange in 1999, resulting in the Lundbeck Foundation since having additional funds to distribute as grants and support for research and scientific activities in Denmark, as well as to Danish scientists abroad.

The Lundbeck Foundation made donations of DKK 281 million in 2007.
