The Foundation was established in 1954 by Grete Lundbeck, Hans Lundbeck’s widow, and is one of the largest private contributors to natural science research in Denmark today.
The Lundbeck Foundation was founded to safeguard and expand the activities of the Lundbeck Group, and to contribute financial support to high-quality research in the natural sciences.
Lundbeck was listed on the Copenhagen stock exchange in 1999, resulting in the Lundbeck Foundation having additional funds to distribute as grants and as support for research and scientific activities in Denmark, as well as to Danish scientists abroad.
In 2010 the Lundbeck Foundation made donations of DKK 384 million.
