The Lundbeck Foundation was founded to safeguard and expand the activities of the Lundbeck group, and to contribute financial support to high-quality research in the natural sciences. Lundbeck was listed on the Copenhagen stock exchange in 1999, resulting in the Lundbeck Foundation since having additional funds to distribute as grants and support for research and scientific activities in Denmark, as well as to Danish scientists abroad. The Lundbeck Foundation made donations of DKK 248 million in 2006, and expects to donate approximately DKK 285 million in 2007. Donations are made with no conditions concerning rights or confidentiality of research results. The foundation attaches great importance to research results being freely accessible. The primary aim is to support natural science research of the highest international standard. Donations from the foundation are made on the recommendation of a scientific committee. The committee has eight members. Funds are given to scientists and projects in Denmark, or to Danish scientists working abroad. The Lundbeck Foundation also awards a number of research prizes every year, including the Nordic Scientist Prize, a prize to a young scientist, and a number of talent prizes. Each year, the Lundbeck Foundation also grants a number of five-year professorships. There are currently Lundbeck professorships at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, and the Technical University of Denmark in Copenhagen, as well as a professorship in clinical nursing and one in experimental studies of human virus and viral infections. |
